The Patient Safety Observer (PSO) is responsible for remotely monitoring up to 10 patients simultaneously using our MedSitter remote monitoring application. The objective of the remote patient safety monitoring program is to enhance patient safety and improve overall patient satisfaction via a live audio-visual stream of the patient to the secure monitoring hub staffed by a PSO.

About the Role

The Patient Safety Observer (PSO) is responsible for remotely monitoring up to 10 patients simultaneously using our MedSitter remote monitoring application. The objective of the remote patient safety monitoring program is to enhance patient safety and improve overall patient satisfaction via a live audio-visual stream of the patient to the secure monitoring hub staffed by a PSO.

Utilizing MedSitter technology, the PSO will observe, communicate and document behaviors that could be disruptive to the patient care plan. The PSO is an important part of the patient care team, assisting the patient by proactively reminding them of self-care limitations, providing timely feedback of behavioral observations to the bedside care team, as well as providing companionship for the patient.

Patients identified as having a high risk for injury if a fall were to occur, are at risk for wandering or have other safety concerns while hospitalized, may require enhanced observation utilizing MedSitter technology.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Provides virtual observation and/or patient interaction as directed by the RN.
  • Provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the use of the MedSitter application.
  • Provides prompt notification of appropriate clinical staff if patient requires assistance. Summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance by communication device and/or Staff-Assist Alert Alarm.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care to patient population requiring video monitoring.
  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Monitors for and maintains patient environmental safety. Notifies clinical staff of potential safety hazards.
  • Wears headset at all times and verbally redirects patient using the digital 2-way audio feature. Remains engaged with patients continuously during shift.
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Participates in report with monitor staff when arriving for shift, and upon completion of shift. Reviews pertinent patient information and behaviors.
  • Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies.
  • Documents patient activity and PSO interventions per facility protocol.
  • Provides one-on-one companionship/supervision with patients.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of PSO training program. Training provided by IDS.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to navigate computer software efficiently.
  • Ability to multitask and work with constant interruptions.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve quickly.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the patients observed, as well as the bedside care team assigned to MedSitter patients.
  • Experience in a hospital environment with direct patient care experience beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • NICHE or similar Geriatric-sensitivity training.
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required.

Salary Range – $15 to $20 per hour based on skills and ability.

Tuition Reimbursement – Tuition reimbursement will be available to pursue healthcare certifications after 6 months of employment.

Work Hours: 8-hour shifts and 12-hour shifts available. The work environment revolves around a 7day 24-hour operation. There is a Day shift, Evening shift, and Nightshift. Weekday and weekend shifts.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 – $20.00 per hour
