Challenge:

Natomas Unified School District faced the challenge of managing 13 schools with disparate surveillance systems, each equipped with analog cameras and digital video recorders (DVRs) that restricted centralized monitoring and archival capabilities. The district aimed to unify their surveillance platform across all schools to enhance monitoring efficiency and simplify management from a central location.

Solution:

IDS, in collaboration with AT&T, developed a tailored Scope of Work (SOW) to address Natomas Unified School District's needs. Leveraging the district's existing storage area network (SAN) and reusing some of the current equipment, IDS integrated Pelco analog cameras and DVRs with new cameras and a network video recorder (NVR). This enterprise solution enabled centralized system management from any location within the district's network. Additionally, IDS configured the system to utilize the district office SANs for long-term video archiving from all schools, overcoming bandwidth limitations by scheduling video archiving after school hours. In total, approximately 250 cameras across 13 schools were integrated into the district's IP infrastructure, providing a unified surveillance platform.
